RAIN
Poster Design / Typography

An entry for a mini D&AD poster brief, in association with the Erik Kessels lecture in Manchester on April 5th 2012. "It always rains in your country. Make a poster for visitors to the UK explaining why so much rain is attractive. Don't be sarcastic. After all, rain can be romantic, useful or beautiful."

My idea expresses the enjoyment of the smell of rain, describing it and the feeling it gives. There is, in fact, a word for the smell: Petrichor - The pleasant smell that accompanies the first rain after a dry spell. The word is constructed from Greek, petra, meaning stone + ichor, the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.
