CORNWALL FILM FESTIVAL
Branding / Illustration

Cornwall Film Festival is 11 years old, in 2012, and has recently moved from its Falmouth home to the Lighthouse cinema in Newquay. With this move and general progression of the festival in mind, Cornwall Film Festival approached University College Falmouth with a loose brief to re-design their brand. I was one of four students that took on the task and put forward my own proposal for the re-brand. My designs were chosen to be developed further and will be the new identity for the festival soon!

The most important aspects that I thought needed to be covered were: the typeface, American Typewriter, required updating and/or replacing as I felt it didn’t suit the festival or reflect Cornwall in any way, the logo needed more emphasis (I didn’t even know what the logo was before) and should be separate from the chough.

The chough is a major part of Cornwall Film Festival’s image and has been since they started in 2001. This is something CFF said they definitely didn’t want to part with but they were open to re-interpretation. I also thought it was necessary to define a set of colours to use on all Cornwall Film Festival promotional materials, such as programmes, posters and flyers.
